Common Name: Harkness
This hardy, adaptable ornamental native shrub with attractive weeping branching produces masses of red flower spikes during spring and then again in autumn; which attract nectar-feeding birds. 'Harkness' is an ideal screening/hedging plant and also makes a great specimen in any garden that will withstand the poorest of soils taking water logging, dry periods light frost and moderate coastal exposure.
It grows best in well drained, moist soil and full sun for optimum flowering. After flowering, remove all the spent buds and feed with a long term 'All purpose' fertiliser' this will help to keep the plant full and bushy and help to set up the next wave of flowers.
